Chiropractic

I love my job as a chiropractor and consider myself a “body engineer.” I understand the importance of communication across all health care disciplines and how to get the best integrative health plan for my patients.

My path to chiropractic started after I finished my degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on biomechanics. One night I was doing heavy squats in the gym and I injured my back, making it painful to sit at my desk at my engineering job. It was during that time I started to be more interested in preserving the human body rather than focusing on engineered replacement parts for the human body. I tried a lot of therapies to help with my pain and was eventually referred to a medical specialist who said I could never lift weights again. Unwilling to give up, I tried chiropractic and after only a few sessions I was back in the gym pain free. After this experience, I was hooked, so I enrolled at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto. It was amazing to realize how my engineering background helped me with my studies as I could envision the forces placed on an individual in various human postures.

After graduating in 2009, I moved back to Halifax where I had wonderful opportunities to train under some of the top chiropractors, physiotherapists, massage therapists, athletic therapists, osteopaths and sports medical doctors in Nova Scotia.

My volunteer work with the local sports community led me to become chosen as the co-lead medical for the Sidney Crosby Hockey School (2015-2017), the lead chiropractor for the World Women’s Hockey Championships in 2020 (postponed due to COVID) as well as the lead chiropractic mentor for Lifemark Atlantic. I was the first chiropractor to be part of the Hockey Nova Scotia Performance Camps and assisted with the Canada Games 2015 male hockey team, which had its best placement since the 1970s. Working with the Saint Mary’s University football team for several years led me to be involved with Football Canada’s Junior National Team camp (2019), and selected to treat the Saskatchewan Rough Riders when they were in Nova Scotia in 2022.

From working as a chiropractor in high level sports I saw a need for more diversity in athletic opportunities. I founded the first 2SLGBTQ2IA+ and Straight Allies Hockey team in Atlantic Canada (the Halifax Mussels) and, because of that initiative, was appointed member of the Hockey Nova Scotia Diversity and Inclusion Task Force to create a safer space for athletes in sport. Most recently I was a chiropractor at the World Canoe Championships 2022 in my hometown of Dartmouth, a chiropractor at the North American Indigenous Games 2023, and the lead medical for the Halifax Pride Cup Hockey Tournament from 2023 - present. I am also proud to serve at the Treasurer of the Council of the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors .

My mission is to help people living with pain and show them the potential they have in their bodies. I’ve personally done CrossFit, Pilates, yoga, and power lifting, just to name a few, so I can feel what my patients are experiencing and determine what is lacking in the workouts. I have also immersed myself in training regimes for many different sports to understand the demands on those athletes. For instance, working with the Saint Mary’s Football team, I developed a Football Pilates class which helped increase the players’ core strength and decrease injuries.

I addition to diversified chiropractic manipulation, I am a Functional Range Release (FR®) practitioner, which is an advanced and comprehensive system of musculoskeletal assessment that helps to remold tissue and obtain greater ranges of motion. It is based on scientific principles and leading manual medical practitioners and therapists around the world use this system, including those with the UFC, NBA, NFL, MLB and NHL. I also am a Functional Range Conditioning (FRC®) mobility specialist, have experience with Clinical Pilates, perform instrument assisted soft tissue techniques, athletic taping, kinesiotaping and very gentle chiropractic techniques.

I love to take inventory of all my athletes and patients’ joints and to see how to improve their capacity. I pride myself on helping to motivate and guide my patients on the best path to health and fitness and am excited to teach others about what I’ve learned and help them see their potential to live with better function.
